Heartopia Rainbow Fish Guide
Rainbow weather is one of the best fishing opportunities in Heartopia. It gives access to rare fish, higher-value catches, and some of the most important collection targets in the game.
This guide explains which rainbow fish matter most, where to catch them, how to use your limited time efficiently, and what to check if you cannot find the fish you want.

Quick Answer
Rainbow fish are fish that either only appear during Rainbow weather or become much easier to catch during that weather window. The problem is that rainbow events are limited, so you need to act fast and smart.
Most important rainbow-only targets:
Best short route:
- 1Deep Sea first
- 2Giantwood River second
- 3Lakes last
If your goal is pure profit, focus on rainbow-exclusive fish first. If your goal is collection progress, catch at least one of each exclusive species before farming duplicates.
1. Rainbow-Exclusive Fish
These fish are the highest priority because they are tied directly to rainbow weather. If you miss the weather window, you miss the chance to catch them. They have the highest value, the highest urgency, and the strongest collection importance.
| Fish | Location | Time | Fishing Level | Value | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Butterfly Koi | Sea (Bill's Boat) | All Day | Lv.8 | 550g | Very High |
| Golden King Crab | Sea (Bill's Boat) | All Day | Lv.9 | 600g | Very High |
| Swordfish | Deep Sea | All Day | Lv.10 | 600g | Very High |
| Bluefin Tuna | Deep Sea | Dawn / Dusk | Lv.10 | 580g | Very High |
| Smooth Hammerhead | Deep Sea | All Day | Lv.10 | 535g | High |
| Huchen | Giantwood River | All Day | Lv.9 | 460g | High |
These are your first targets when rainbow weather begins. Secure them before the weather window ends.
2. Rainbow-Enhanced Fish
These fish can appear in other conditions too, but rainbow weather makes them more worthwhile to farm. They are useful when you have already caught the exclusive fish you need, or when your fishing level is not high enough for the top-tier rainbow-only targets.
| Fish | Location | Time | Fishing Level | Value | Also Spawns In |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Goldfish | Meadow Lake | Morning / Day / Evening | Lv.6 | 320g | Rainy Days |
| Large Pearl Mussel | Lake | All Day | Lv.7 | 460g | Rainy Days |
| Zander | Giantwood River | All Day | Lv.4 | 230g | Sunny Days |
| Common Carp | Rosy River | Noon–Midnight | Lv.3 | 230g | Sunny Days |
| Tadpole | Onsen Mountain Lake | All Day | Lv.2 | 100g | Rainy Days |
These are not the fish you should rush first if rainbow time is limited, but they are very useful for collection and efficient leveling.
Best 2-Hour Rainbow Fishing Route
Most guides list fish but fail to tell you what to do first, second, and third. This route solves that problem.
Phase 1: Deep Sea Priority
Start at Fishing Village, rent Bill's boat, and go to Deep Sea first. This is where the highest-value rainbow fish are concentrated.
- Swordfish
- Bluefin Tuna
- Smooth Hammerhead
- Golden King Crab
- Butterfly Koi
Deep Sea should be your first stop because it contains the highest-value rainbow-exclusive fish, and these are the most important catches to secure before the weather window ends.
Phase 2: Giantwood River
After Deep Sea, move to Giantwood River. Catches are faster here, and the fish still have strong value.
- Huchen (main target)
- Zander (useful secondary catch)
Phase 3: Lake Sweep
Finish with Meadow Lake, Forest Lake, or Onsen Mountain Lake, depending on your level and goals.
- Goldfish
- Large Pearl Mussel
- Tadpole
This is the lowest-priority phase for advanced players, but it is still a good use of leftover rainbow time if you want collection progress or easier leveling.
How to Confirm Rainbow Weather Is Active
Do not travel to fishing spots before confirming rainbow weather. Always verify through your in-game tools first.
- 1
Open your smartwatch in-game.
- 2
Check the weather icon on the main screen.
- 3
Look for the rainbow symbol in the weather display.
- 4
Confirm the event is active before traveling to your fishing spots.
Rainbow events are limited and should be treated as time-sensitive opportunities. For more details on fishing mechanics, see our complete Fishing Guide in Heartopia.
Best Strategy by Player Type
Different goals require different approaches during rainbow weather. Find your player type below.
New Players (Low Fishing Level)
If you are still early in the game, do not stress about the highest-value rainbow-exclusive fish yet.
- Fish in easier lake or river zones
- Catch everything you can
- Use rainbow weather for fast XP
- Prepare for higher-level events later
Mid-Game Players
If you are in the middle range, balance profit, progression, and realistic difficulty.
- Goldfish at Meadow Lake
- Zander at Giantwood River
- Large Pearl Mussel at Forest Lake
Advanced Players
If you are high level, maximize efficiency during the rainbow window.
- Deep Sea first
- Rainbow-exclusive fish are top priority
- Sell raw fish during the event
- Avoid wasting time on low-value catches
Completionists
If your goal is journal completion, a specific order matters.
- Catch one of every rainbow-exclusive species first, then use the rest of the event for enhanced fish or duplicates
Troubleshooting: Why You May Not Be Finding Rainbow Fish
Most players who cannot find rainbow fish are making one of these five mistakes. Go through each check before giving up.
Check 1: Is It Really Rainbow Weather?
Do not assume. Confirm rainbow weather through the smartwatch or visible in-game indicators before traveling to any fishing spot.
Check 2: Are You in the Right Location?
Some players waste time in the wrong zone. Swordfish requires Deep Sea. Huchen requires Giantwood River. Goldfish requires Meadow Lake. A correct weather condition does not help if the location is wrong.
Check 3: Is the Time of Day Correct?
Not every fish is available all day. Bluefin Tuna has a Dawn / Dusk requirement. Goldfish has Morning / Day / Evening timing. Time filters matter even during rainbow weather.
Check 4: Is Your Fishing Level High Enough?
Some rainbow fish are level-locked. If you are below the requirement, they will remain out of reach no matter how good the weather is. Check the tables in this guide for level requirements.
Check 5: Are You Losing Fish During the Fight?
If fish keep escaping, slow down and manage tension instead of over-reeling. Watch the line color indicator. Stop reeling the moment it turns red.
Best Practices During Rainbow Weather
To get the most out of your rainbow fishing session, follow these guidelines before and during the event.
Clear your inventory before the rainbow event begins so you have maximum storage.
Bring bait and utility items to avoid wasting time restocking mid-event.
Prioritize rainbow-exclusive fish first before switching to enhanced targets.
Avoid cooking during the event window — sell raw fish and cook later.
Sell and reset only when absolutely necessary to preserve your time window.
✨ Sell raw, cook later. This matches the event's time pressure and improves real efficiency during rainbow weather.
