Animal troughs are hidden until you unlock the Animal Care system. Here's how:
Progress through the main story and raise your D.G. Member Level to unlock the Animal Care section in your Town Guide.
Speak with NPC Annie — she will explain the island wildlife and how the feeding system works.
Complete Annie's introductory quest: find and fill the Sika Deer trough in the Forest. Wait for the animals to eat.
All 8 troughs are now active. Once you find a trough, track it anytime from the Animals app on your in-game watch.
💡 Place a manual map marker on each trough the first time you find it — the Animals app shows bond level but the map marker helps with your daily route.
Each animal has 3 favorite foods that give 2× bond progress. Feed during preferred weather for an additional bonus.

Each bond level unlocks more features. Feed favorite foods in preferred weather to level up faster.
Basic interaction (feed only) → Petting unlocked → Brushing unlocked
Animal leaves gifts at trough → More interaction types → Home visits begin → Gift frequency increases
Exclusive themed furniture unlocked (figurines, puzzles) → Maximum gift frequency → Wishing Stars reward → Special emotes

Start at Bunny (Western Town Suburbs) — easiest to reach from home
Fox (Windmill Flower Fields) — head west
Alpaca (Purple Light Beach bridge) — continue south-west
Sea Otter (Fishing Village) — head south to coast
Sika Deer (Forest Bus Stop) — head north into forest
Panda (Jump Puzzle area) — continue south-east in forest
Capybara (Onsen Mountain) — head west to mountain
Ferret (Rosy River bridge) — finish north-west near home lots
