The Golden Retriever secretly funds your island — bonded dogs bring back Gold Bags as daily gifts. Pair it with Seek Treasure and let your dog work for you.

How to Unlock

Dog Caring requires three prerequisites — they must all be met before dogs appear in the adoption pool.

  1. 1Reach Developer's Guild Member Level 12 by completing Resident Requests daily.
  2. 2Unlock and complete the Cat Caring hobby tutorial with Mrs. Joan first — it's the required prerequisite.
  3. 3Exchange one Hobby Expansion Ticket with Mrs. Joan at the Pet Adoption Center in town.

⏱ How long? Approximately 3–5 days of consistent play to reach D.G. Level 12. Cat Care unlocks before that, so you won't be waiting long.

Adoption System

Mrs. Joan shows 3 random dogs (and 3 random cats) every day. The selection resets at the daily server reset — there are no rerolls.

How to Adopt

  1. 1Approach a dog at the adoption center and select Adopt.
  2. 2Pay the 500g physical exam fee.
  3. 3Name your dog — you can rename them later anytime.
  4. 4Your dog is sent directly to your home plot.

How Many Dogs Can You Own?

Milestone🐕
Dog Caring Level 11 dog
Dog Caring Level 42 dogs
Dog Caring Level 83 dogs

Dogs cannot be returned or rehomed. The only option is to board them for 20,000g — they remain part of your household permanently.

Tips for Finding the Breed You Want

  • Visit the adoption center every day — the rotation is fully random.
  • Each dog's breed, traits, fur pattern, and eye color are shown on its ID card before adopting.
  • If your preferred breed appears, adopt immediately — it won't be there tomorrow.
  • Rare breeds appear more frequently during seasonal events.

Which Dog Breed Is Best?

For gold farming, prioritize the Golden Retriever — bonded Golden Retrievers bring Gold Bags as daily gifts. For low-maintenance care, any breed with Sluggish + Indifferent traits is easiest. For aesthetics, Corgi and Shiba Inu top community polls.

Personality Traits

Every dog gets exactly 2 random traits when it spawns. You can see both on the dog's ID card before adopting. Breed does NOT determine traits — any breed can have any combination.

Chatterbox🟡 Medium

Barks frequently. Can alert you to nearby items.

Clingy🟠 High

Follows you at home; higher chance of damaging furniture when bored.

Energetic🟠 High

Wants lots of play and walks; hunger drops faster than average.

Indifferent🟢 Easy

Neutral behavior across the board. Easy to manage.

Lone Wolf🟢 Easy

Prefers to be alone; needs less social interaction.

Naughty🔴 Demanding

More likely to misbehave; damages furniture if left alone too long.

Quiet🟢 Easy

Rarely makes noise. Calm, gentle presence at home.

Sensitive🟡 Medium

Picky eater — won't accept all food types; requires trial and error.

Sluggish🟢 Easy

Hunger depletes slower; low activity — needs less feeding and walking.

Sociable🟠 High

Needs frequent interaction and attention; mood drops faster.

Unsociable🟢 Easy

Wants minimal interaction. Easy to care for.

Trait Tips

  • 💡Easiest combination: Sluggish + Indifferent — minimal daily effort required.
  • 💡Hardest combination: Naughty + Clingy — expect furniture damage and constant attention.
  • 💡Traits do not affect gift-giving rate — any combination can bring you rare items at high bond.

Fur & Eye Variations

Each dog's look is built from four independent layers, creating 200–500+ unique combinations.

🎨Fur Colors

Black · White · Cream · Brown · Golden · Gray · Tri-color

🔲Fur Patterns

Solid · Spotted · Brindle · Merle · Parti-color · Tuxedo · Sable

👁️Eye Colors

Brown (most common) · Amber/Gold · Blue · Green · Heterochromia (two different colors — rarest)

Eye Styles

Round · Almond · Button

Heterochromia is the rarest eye variant — considered a collector's prize by the community.

Daily Care

Bond level determines gift frequency and hobby XP speed. Monitor stats via the Pet app on your in-game watch.

Feed

Tap the food bowl icon to feed. Use dog food or snacks from your inventory. Sensitive dogs may refuse certain foods — experiment to find what works.

Play

Use toys to entertain your dog. Builds happiness faster than feeding alone.

Bathe

Select Pet Wash when your dog is dirty. Follow the 3-stage process: wash → rinse → dry. A clean buff appears on your dog's profile.

Train

Teach tricks using the Train option. Best hobby XP source and unlocks Doggie Time Collection rewards.

Go Out

Take your dog out to explore town. If you walk too far ahead, they'll return home. Great for social encounters with other players.

Training & Tricks

Teaching tricks builds bond, earns Doggie Time Collection stars, and unlocks costumes and items not found anywhere else.

CommandWhat It DoesPriority
Seek TreasureDog searches for hidden items while you play — passive item discovery.🔴 Train First
Give PawDog offers paw on command — increases bond meter.🟡 Medium
Shake HeadDog shakes head on command — earns a Collection star.🟡 Medium
FetchDog retrieves thrown items.🟡 Medium

How Training Works

Select Train from your dog's interaction menu. Watch the move your dog performs, then applaud (correct) or reprimand (incorrect). Each session adds to the Doggie Time Collection.

⭐ Train Seek Treasure first — it's the only command with a real gameplay benefit, finding hidden items passively as you explore.

Level Rewards

Pro Tips

  1. 1Adopt the day your favorite breed appears — even if traits aren't ideal. Breed is visual; traits are random on every dog.
  2. 2Auto-Feed (Level 5) is the most important milestone — unlock it first. It removes daily feeding anxiety for multiple dogs.
  3. 3Always teach Seek Treasure first. Every other trick is cosmetic — this one finds items for you in the background.
  4. 4Bond = gifts. The higher your bond level, the more often your dog brings you random items and Gold Bags.
  5. 5Do NOT board unless necessary. Boarding costs 20,000g and the dog stays in your household — there's no permanent release.
  6. 6Heterochromia dogs (two different eye colors) are rare and worth keeping even if the breed isn't your top choice.
  7. 7Check the adoption center every day — even when you already have 3 dogs. Tracking rare breeds helps complete the Doggie Time Collection.
